There's so much self hatred to be found on Tumblr (and online in general). Not from the people I follow, but if you ever bother to search tags like "ugly," "fat," or any other potentially negative tag, you will find people lamenting their lot in life. So much pain, placed out there for the world to see.
Does exposing the pain help them? Are they just looking for a reassuring comment, "oh, hey, you're not so ugly, useless, etc, etc"?
I wonder, too, if the western world has gotten so easy that we have ample time to focus heavily on the minutiae? If these kids were out working the field, would they have time to worry that they weren't as pretty as the next? Would it matter??
